This home blue dureen and wool combo by Cosby was worn by Reg Fleming circa 1967. Fleming was a fan favorite at MSG, the rink he called home for 4 seasons. Reg played in the NHL for 11 years and spent another 2 in the WHA as a member of the Chicago Cougars. His NHL career saw him represent Montreal, Chicago, New York, Boston, Philadelphia and Buffalo.
Fleming was a tough nosed defenseman who also played some Left Wing. In 749 NHL games he racked up 1468 PIMS, quite a total for a player of his generation. In 1966 he led the entire NHL in PIMS with 166. In 9 of his 11 seasons he accumulated PIM totals in the mid 100’s and seemed to always be among the league leaders. In 1961, as a rookie, he was an NHL All Star and won the Stanley Cup as a member of the Chicago Black Hawks later that same year.
Sewn into the hem of this dureen and wool gamer are the Cosby, size and 1967 year tags. Game use is solid on this 40-year-old sweater with stick marks and board burns, un-repaired holes, pilling and a half dozen team-sewn repairs. This choice example is a reminder of times gone by, when the Original 6 merged into 12. Astute collectors continue to take advantage of the rare opportunities to acquire these true pieces of NHL history. This is an awesome vintage representation!
