This road black wool gamer by Gerry Cosby was worn by Duane Rupp during the 1962-63 AHL season, the Baltimore Clippers inaugural year. Duane Rupp spent a couple of decades patrolling bluelines and clearing creases in the NHL, WHA, AHL and IHL. His NHL career spanned from 1962-63 thru 1972-73. During the Original 6 period of his tenure, he played for the New York Rangers and the Toronto Maple Leafs. Post expansion, Rupp continued on with the Leafs, a team that he played with for 4 seasons, the Minnesota North Stars and then spent 5 years with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Duane spent time in the WHA with the Vancouver Blazers and the Calgary Cowboys.
Rupp spent 2 seasons on the Baltimore Clippers blueline during the franchises first 2 years of existence, spanning 1962-64. During that time he played alongside other notable Baltimore Clippers such as Jean Ratelle, Vic Hadfield, Gilles Villemure, Bob Plager and Bryan Hextall among others. Rupp played in 71 games during that historic first season, scoring 21 points and adding 42 PIMS.
You must harken back to the days when the NHL was loaded with talent top to bottom throughout the rosters of the Original 6 teams and many great future and past NHLers were playing important parts of their careers in the AHL during the early 1960’s to really appreciate the history behind this amazing jersey. Sewn into the collar of this stunning gamer is the Gerry Cosby and size tagging. The Baltimore Clippers wore this beautiful one-year style, with its embroidered circle crest, featuring the team name and nautical theme as well as sewn-on numbers in their first year of existence, 1962-63! The original tie string remains laced through the eyelits. The overall condition is excellent and the game wear on this wool is solid with about twenty team-sewn repairs, some small un-repaired holes and areas of pilling that are evident throughout this vintage relic. A scant few first year Baltimore Clippers wools are known to exist in the hobby and they are considered a true grail by Baltimore collectors, vintage collectors and minor league enthusiasts alike. This stunning wool gamer is fresh to the hobby and would become an instant cornerstone item in your collection, choice!
