Former IceDogs Star Settles in Sweden

2007-08 Season

Luca Caputi only played one season in Niagara, but his impact had a lasting effect on the local IceDogs fans. He was part of the city’s 2007-08 inaugural season and Caputi’s 51 goals and 111 points are still franchise records.

“It was a great ovation. I was pretty impressed, but also pretty nervous,” Caputi said when he was recognized during a pregame ceremony three years later.

Since leaving Niagara, Caputi’s journey has taken him from the NHL to Sweden and several stops in between. He’s played in 35 NHL games (Pittsburgh & Toronto), but hasn’t appeared since 2011.

After playing in the minors, the 26-year old is currently in a Swedish professional league for a second season. It’s an opportunity Caputi chronicles through his Twitter account, as he keeps friends, family and fans up to date.

The IceDogs will always be special to Caputi, as he played four years for the franchise which moved from Mississauga to Niagara in his final OHL season.

And the feeling is mutual as witnessed during Caputi’s return to a 2011 IceDogs playoff game.

“It just brings back memories,” he told Jeff Blay of the IceDogs media relations department.

It was a season that featured Caputi as a second team All-Star after he finished fourth in the OHL in scoring.

More memories now return as Caputi’s game worn jersey from that inaugural season is on the market.

This gamer has Caputi’s alternate Captain’s “A” patch and is part of the IceDogs collection featured in the GAMEWORNAUCTIONS.NET Fall 2014 Auction.

Four Must Have North Dakota Goalie Masks

Unmasking the UND Collection

UND Goalie MasksFighting Sioux Masks

  • #1 Brad Eidsness (white)
  • #2 Aaron Dell
  • #3 Jason Endres
  • #4 Brad Eidsness (green)

Brad Eidsness and Aaron Dell battled for playing time at North Dakota and now we take the competition off the ice.

Who wore it better?

You decide which Fighting Sioux goalie mask is most appealing in our UND collection, part of the GAMEWORNAUCTION.NET Fall 2014 Auction.

Eidsness was North Dakota’s starter as a freshman & sophomore (2008-2010), but Dell earned the job the next season before the two split time in 2011-12.

Nearly a decade before the Eidsness/Dell era, Jason Endres was a North Dakota goaltender. He only played two games in 2000, recording one win, but wore a flashy Sioux mask that features the beloved Geometric Logo which is also part of this collection.

Eidsness vs Dell vs Endres, let the game worn debate begin!

Jonathan Toews in the 2005-06 Frozen Four

From one of the youngest players to ever wear the NHL’s Captain’s “C”, to winning multiple medals, trophies and awards, success is nothing new to Jonathan Toews.

And now collectors can add a prize of their own as the earliest known Toews’ gamer has hit the market.

The current Chicago Blackhawks star burst on to the college hockey scene as a North Dakota freshman in 2005-06, helping lead the Fighting Sioux to back-to-back Frozen Four appearances.

This rare Toews UND game worn jersey is the centerpiece of our nearly 50 Fighting Sioux gamers offered in this collection.

After North Dakota, Toews quickly succeeded in the NHL and before his second season was named the Hawks’ captain.

At the time, he was the third-youngest NHL player (age 20) to be awarded the permanent “C”.  Only Sidney Crosby and Vinny Lecavalier were younger.

As Toews’ 8th NHL season is now underway, a look at what the young superstar has already accomplished:

Stamkos Recalls GWs in Game Worn Jersey

Steven Stamkos Game Worn Jersey Photo Match

Steven Stamkos is the NHL’s version of “Rain Man.” Like the Dustin Hoffman character from the 1988 eponymous movie, he has an uncanny memory and can recall everyone of his nearly 250 career goals.

We’re not just talking about a memorable overtime game winner against Vancouver, but the subtle nuances that makes his memory freakish.

Stamkos was put to the test by TSN earlier this season and, as seen in this video, the results are astounding.

Tampa Bay Lightning v Toronto Maple Leafs

Stamkos’ 2010-11 Game Worn Jersey

The vivid memory of a random two-goal game, of the hundreds he’s played, is impressive.

At GAMEWORNAUCTIONS.NET we’re wondering if Stamkos recalls when he got the slash mark alongside the crest on this game worn jersey from the 2010-11 season.

It’s the same jersey Stamkos wore for the previously mentioned Vancouver game winner on December 11, 2010.

His description on that goal would be something like, ‘early in OT on the power play, ripped a one-timer from Marty St. Louis from between the circles to beat Cory Schneider top corner.’

Stamkos is one of the league’s best young players and, with the recent departures of Marty St. Louis and Vincent Lecavalier, is now the Captain and face of the Lightning franchise.

He’s considered the league’s best goal scorer and Stamkos ranks #3 on TSN’s current Top 50 NHL players list.

Stamkos and the Lightning are looking to contend for this year’s Stanley Cup and there’s no doubt this super star will be adding a lot more goals to his memory bank.

Crosby Earns Hart & Ross Trophies in this Game Worn Jersey

Crosby vs. LA, (3/27/140, the eventual Stanley Cup Champions

Crosby vs. LA, the Eventual Stanley Cup Champions, on 3/27/14

Sidney Crosby is a creature of habit.

“I’m a guy who doesn’t like change,” he told Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette before the start of this NHL season.

While the reigning Hart Trophy winner was referring to the the Penguins leadership change (GM Ray Shero & coach Dan Bylsma out, Jim Rutherford & Mike Johnston in, respectively), Crosby feels the same way about all aspects of his game.

Crosby’s superstitions have been well documented, and while he’d love to wear the same jersey every game, it’s not possible in today’s NHL (home & away, Set 1 & Set 2, third jerseys, etc.).

Each game worn jersey has it’s own story to tell and Crosby’s black gamer from the second half of 2013-14 was part of “Sid the Kid’s” standout season that featured him earning:

Crosby 2013-14 Game Worn Jersey

  • Hart Memorial Trophy – 2nd MVP Award

  • Art Ross Trophy – 2nd Scoring Title

  • Ted Lindsay Award – 3rd Most Outstanding Player as selected by the NHLPA

  • 1st Team All Star – 3rd time selected

Crosby wore the jersey 21 times and some of the game highlights included:

DateOppResultGoalsAssistsPoints
1/3/2014NYRW123
1/27/2014BUFW022
2/27/2014MTLL112
3/18/2014DALW213
3/22/2014TBLW123
3/30/2014CHIW202

And the game worn jersey is verified with radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology, something the Penguins do to ensure authenticity.

Penguins Head Equipment Manager Dana Heinze gave a behind the scenes look at the process via Twitter:

As for Crosby’s superstitions, like his pregame peanut butter and jelly sandwich, he never waivers from his routine.

“There’s probably a few that are borderline crazy, but I guess we’re all crazy in our own way,” he said.
